Salisbury University graduate student John DeFazio (Mountain Lakes, N.J./Mountain Lakes) has been named the Coastal Lacrosse Conference Player of the Year and senior teammate Brice Bromwell (Woolford, Md./Cambridge-South Dorchester) has been tabbed the CLC Offensive Player of the Year to highlight the 36-member 2025 CLC All-Conference Team.
Additionally, Stockton University freshman Jack Vandegrift (Jenkintown, Pa./La Salle College Prep) has been voted the CLC Rookie of the Year; Christopher Newport University junior Jamie Smith (Kent Island, Md./Kent Island) is the CLC Scholar-Athlete of the Year; and the Salisbury coaching staff led by head coach Jim Berkman has been voted the CLC Coaching Staff of the Year.
The all-conference team and major awards were voted on by the league’s seven head coaches and were based on overall regular season statistics.
DeFazio anchored the Salisbury back line, leading the Sea Gulls to the top scoring defense in the Coastal Lacrosse Conference during the regular season. Behind DeFazio’s leadership, the Sea Gulls currently boast the ninth-best scoring defense in the country, allowing just 7.65 goals per game. Starting all 17 games, the three-time CLC All-Conference defender posted 91 ground balls and 39 caused turnovers in the regular season. He caused a season-high five turnovers against Ohio Wesleyan and racked up a season-high nine ground balls in a CLC tilt with Kean. DeFazio also contributed five goals and eight assists for 13 points out of the back field.
Bromwell was the engine behind Salisbury’s high-powered offense, racking up 97 points on 45 goals and 52 assists while shooting .642 over the course of 17 games. The senior midfielder ranked first in the CLC in points per game (5.71) and second in total points (97). His 5.71 points per game also puts him at eighth in NCAA Division III, while his 3.06 assists per game are among the top 20 nationally and second in the CLC. Bromwell posted a season-high 10 points on three goals and seven assists to open the season against Eastern. He also posted three or more points in all but two games, and five or more points in 12 occasions. Bromwell led a Salisbury offense that ranks among the top 10 nationally with 17.65 goals per game and is fourth with a +10.0 scoring margin.
Vandegrift made an immediate impact for Stockton in his rookie campaign, starting all 17 games at attack. He recorded 26 goals and eight assists for 34 points to lead all Stockton players. He had at least one goal in all but two games, and at least one point in all but one contest. He posted a career-high four goals in a win over Arcadia and added three goals each against Mary Washington and Kean. Vandegrift posted a .571 shot-on-goal percentage for the regular season and contributed 18 ground balls.
Smith becomes the first Christopher Newport men's lacrosse player to earn CLC Scholar-Athlete of the Year honors. A junior attackman, Smith is CNU’s top goal scorer with 63 goals to go wtih six assists for 69 points after returning from a missed sophomore season. His 63 goals (3.71 per game) rank second in the CLC. He posted a career-high eight goals in the season-opening win over Hampden-Sydney and six each in wins over Roanoke and Mary Washington. Off the field, he carries a 3.6 GPA as a finance major with honors.
The Salisbury coaching staff, led by Jim Berkman along with assistants Justin Axel, Jayme Block, Nick Garbarino, Chandler Dabbs, Drew Borkowicz, and Jackson Woodward, was selected as the CLC Coaching Staff of the Year. They led the Sea Gulls to a 17-0 overall record so far and a 5-0 mark in CLC play, earning the No. 1 seed for this week’s Coastal Lacrosse Conference Tournament. The Sea Gulls are currently ranked No. 2 nationally and placed 13 players on the All-Conference Team, including seven First Team selections along with both the Player of the Year in DeFazio and Offensive Player of the Year in Bromwell.
