CNU's Smith, Kean's Gruzas Earn CLC Weekly Honors

The Coastal Lacrosse Conference has announced its weekly award winners for the week ending February 15, 2026.

OFFENSIVE PLAYER OF THE WEEK
JAMIE SMITH • Christopher Newport University
Senior • Attack • Kent Island, MD/Kent Island

Smith has been named CLC Offensive Player of the Week after delivering one of the most impressive individual offensive performances of the young season, posting a game-high six goals on seven shots (.875) to lead Christopher Newport to a 16-9 victory over No. 9 Gettysburg. His first tally broke a 3-3 deadlock in the first quarter, and his third gave the Captains an 8-7 edge heading into the fourth. Smith then took over completely in the second half, scoring four goals to turn a back-and-forth battle into a commanding seven-goal victory. His six-goal output equaled the 10th-most in program history and ranks third-highest against a nationally-ranked opponent.

DEFENSIVE PLAYER OF THE WEEK
JAKE GRUZAS • Kean University
Sophomore • Long Stick Midfielder • Caldwell, NJ/Caldwell

Gruzas claimed CLC Defensive Player of the Week honors following a disruptive performance on the defensive end in Kean's 13-10 victory over Eastern, recording seven caused turnovers along with two ground balls and an assist. The sophomore long stick midfielder consistently applied pressure on Eastern's offense throughout the contest, forcing turnovers at an exceptional rate to help the Cougars secure the win in their season opener.
