Jake Gruzas of Kean University has been named to the first USILA Team of the Week of the 2026 season following a standout defensive performance in the Cougars’ 13-10 season-opening victory over Eastern on Saturday.
 
A sophomore long-stick midfielder from Caldwell, N.J., Gruzas was a disruptive force all afternoon, tallying seven caused turnovers and scooping up two ground balls to help anchor Kean’s defensive effort. He also contributed on the offensive end with an assist in the win.
 
Gruzas’ seven caused turnovers marked a game-high total and played a pivotal role in limiting Eastern’s offensive opportunities as the Cougars secured the three-goal victory.
